Haunted Castles of the World: Ghostly Legends and Phenomena from Keeps and Fortresses Around the Globe by Charles A. Coulombe. A tour of haunted castles and their ghost legends from around the world, including America, Europe and Japan. All these castles can be visited by the public. The Field Guide to Ghosts and Other Apparitions by Patrick Huyghe & Hilary Evans. Covers a wide variety of ghosts, phantoms and apparitions, including ghosts of the dead, ghosts of the living, and ghosts from the future. Also includes animal ghosts, ghost buildings and ghostly landscapes.
Living With Ghosts: True Tales of the Paranormal by Dorothy Burtz Fiedel. Half of it is a memoir about the author being visited by the ghost of her dead husband, and the other half consists of a wide range of eyewitness accounts of ghosts and the paranormal. In the Realm of Ghosts and Hauntings by E. Randall Floyd. An even mix of famous ghost legends with some obscure but good ghost stories. This ghost lore comes from all around the world.
The Encyclopedia of Ghosts and Spirits by Rosemary Ellen Guiley. A big A-Z reference book about ghost beliefs worldwide, including skeptical views as well as what believers say. Nearly every famous haunted site and famous ghost is covered individually. Haunted Places: The National Directory: Ghostly Abodes, Sacred Sites, UFO Landings, and Other Supernatural Locations by Dennis William Hauck. This giant guide to American hauntings and ghosts, organized by state, contains entries on over 2,000 places that are reputed to be haunted by ghosts, mythical creatures, or bizarre paranormal events. Each entry includes exact driving directions for those who want to try and see the ghosts.
The International Directory of Haunted Places: Ghostly Abodes, Sacred Sites, and Other Supernatural Locations by Dennis William Hauck. This is the international version of Hauck's other ghost book. It leaves out most American hauntings, but includes over 700 entries on famous haunted sites and their ghosts from all around the world. Ghostly Encounters : True Stories of America's Haunted Inns and Hotels by Frances Kermeen. An innkeeper had her business skyrocket because of a haunting. So she decided to investigate other haunted inns, and then she wrote this book.
The Ghost Next Door: True Stories of Paranormal Encounters from Everyday People by Mark Alan Morris. Modern-day "true" ghost stories, all reported as actual experiences by ordinary people. Each ghost sighting is prefaced by commentary, but most of it comes word-for-word straight from the source. Entities: Angels, Spirits, Demons, and Other Alien Beings by Joe Nickell. This book covers a wide variety of ghostly apparitions and supernatural beings, placing them within the context of folklore and viewing all of them as different varieties of the same thing.
Haunted America by Beth Scott and Michael Norman. More than seventy haunting legends are examined, mostly using witness interviews and newspapers as sources. This is a large collection, but keeps mostly to the famous ghost tales. However, it tells these ghost legends in more depth than is usual, relying on extensive and valuable research. Haunted Heritage : A Definitive Collection of North American Ghost Stories by Beth Scott and Michael Norman. A large and well-written collection of many ghost folktales from all across the United States and Canada, along with the biographical and historical information needed to fully appreciate these ghost tales.
Historic Haunted America by Beth Scott and Michael Norman. Based on eyewitness accounts of ghosts and extensive research, this is another large reference book of American ghost legends by two famous investigators with extensive experience researching ghosts. The Complete Idiot's Guide to Ghosts and Hauntings by Tom Ogden. A simple little book for people who want to know just a little about ghosts. As an "idiot's" book, it is not really adequate for such a large subject.
Ghosts by Ed Okonowicz. An award-winning author and ghost investigator presents a number of ghost stories. Some are fictional, others based on actual haunting cases. Possessed Possessions : Haunted Antiques, Furniture and Collectibles by Ed Okonowicz and Kathleen Okonowicz. "True" stories of objects that seem to house ghosts or attract spirits, as told by witnesses.
Ghost: A Firsthand Account Into the World of Paranormal Activity by Katherine Ramsland. A journalist who is trying to unravel the secrets of a haunted ring is eventually drawn into an investigation of ghosts and the paranormal in general, including psychics, haunted houses, voodoo, ghost hunters and mediums. She recounts her experiences, along with her gradual change from skepticism to belief. Haunted Houses: Chilling Tales from 24 American Homes, Third Edition by Nancy Roberts. Although based on actual hauntings, these ghost legends are rewritten extensively enough that they almost cease to be legends and begin to be short stories that are merely based on ghost legends.
Coast To Coast Ghosts by Leslie Rule. "True" ghost stories collected from all across America. Most of them are recent and supported by extensive research. Also, some spirit photographs are included. Ghosts Among Us: True Stories of Spirit Encounters by Leslie Rule. Firsthand stories of ghosts and mysterious circumstances, along with the author's own researches into the paranormal and features about ghosts in the news.
Real Ghosts, Restless Spirits, and Haunted Places by Brad Steiger. A large collection of haunting cases, including many memorable, famous tales such as Abraham Lincoln's experiences with ghosts, the Amityville horror, and others. Haunted Lighthouses: And How to Find Them by George Steitz. The title pretty much says it all. Information on legends about haunted lighthouses, including historical details and how to visit them to try for your own ghost sighting. Also includes some tourist information about where to eat and stay when visiting.
Beyond the Grave: The History of America's Most Haunted Graveyards by Troy Taylor. Many "true" stories about ghosts that haunt graveyards, including a number of new tales that are not in other books. Field Guide to Haunted Graveyards: The Research Guide to Investigating America's Haunted Cemeteries by Troy Taylor. This state-by-state guide to more than 200 haunted graveyards and their ghosts includes a bunch of other material about American burial customs and how to investigate a haunted cemetery.
The Haunting of America: Ghosts & Legends from America's Haunted Past by Troy Taylor. This collection includes older ghost legends that have been around for a while. No Rest for the Wicked: History & Hauntings of American Crime & Unsolved Mysteries by Troy Taylor. A survey of America's most violent ghosts and haunting-related crimes, plus some non-paranormal yet bizarre mysteries thrown in for flavor.
I Never Believed in Ghosts Until... : 100 Real-Life Encounters compiled by USA WEEKEND. Unique, recent, first-hand ghost reports and sightings. Collected from people who responded to a request for true ghost stories in USA WEEKEND. Ghost Ships: True Stories of Nautical Nightmares, Hauntings, and Disasters by Richard Winer. Mostly older tales, some of them about ghosts on ships, and others about mysterious shipwrecks and "Bermuda triangle style" disappearances that may or may not have explicit paranormal aspects or connections to ghosts.
